Product Specifications

The Shimano Symetre Front Drag ultralight spinning reel boasts an impressive mix of features at a price tag that any angler can afford.  Shimano’s patented Propulsion line management system makes it easy to keep the twists and knots out of the line when it’s on the spool, and helps provide you with almost effortless casting strokes.  A cold-forged aluminum spool prevents flex when the drag is screaming, while the S A-RB ball bearings and S-concept engineering keep the reel operating smoothly, without any twitches or jumps in the gears inside.  Shimano’s Fluidrive system makes it easy to retrieve the line whether it’s under a load, or not.

What I Think

Even though the Symetre isn’t Shimano’s highest end ultralight reel, it is still held to the same level of engineering and quality that goes into their other high end models.  It is capable of handling a wide range of species, from crappie and panfish to trout, smallmouth and largemouth bass.  The smooth operation and extreme durability make it a great choice, especially with the competitive price tag attached to the reels.

When you want true Shimano quality without having to deal with the price tags on their higher end models, you want the Symetre.  As an ultralight reel it is better than most of the comparable models that are on the market these days.  The style of the design makes it incredibly durable, and gives it a long lasting appeal.  You may end up wanting to purchase a second reel as a spare to keep aside for a rainy day.
