Product Specifications (FI)

Each Shimano Stradic FI reel is built with their Paladin Gear Durability Enhancement system, and Propulsion Line Management System, making it a bulletproof, super smooth operating reel that will last for a long time and provide effortless days of fishing over, and over again.  The reel is designed with Aero Wrap II Oscillation and an aluminum frame with graphite sideplate, and rotor, along with an aluminum spool to keep the weight down and make the reel easily balanced to most ultralight rods.

What I Think

The Shimano Stradic FI is a super affordable ultralight reel that delivers on some of the features you would see on Shimano’s higher end models.  Each Stradic FI reel is rated for saltwater use, and include a maintenance port to ensure that the drivetrain has adequate lubrication in order to prevent corrosion or gears sticking.  They are designed to ensure that the line comes off of the spool smoothly, and prevent any line twists when you are retrieving after your cast.  Weighing only 7.4 ounces total, the Stradic FI is easily balanced and doesn’t bounce around during your retrieve, making it easy on your wrists and hands after a long day of fishing.

At a lower price tag than the CI4, but with an almost mirror of features, it is easy to see how the Stradic FI is a great deal for all ultralight anglers.  The entry level price tag makes it easily accessible to most UL anglers, but includes some high end features that leaves people wondering whether or not it is priced too cheap.

Product Specifications (CI4)

The CI4 in the Shimano Stradic CI4 lets you know that you are getting the best of the best when it comes to ultralight spinning reels.  The CI stands for Carbon Interfusion while the 4 stands for the number of electrons inside the Carbon atom.  What this simply means is that it is over 20% lighter than Shimano’s XT-7 reel, and more than one and a half times stronger.  Each reel is designed with the Paladin gear durability enhancement, and Propulsion line management system.  The Propulsion line management system consists of a Propulsion spool lip, SR one-piece bail wire, Power Roller III, redesigned bail trip, and S-Arm cam to provide the smoothest casts you have ever felt.

What I Think

Engineering is the name of the game with the Shimano Stradic CI4.  The Stradic has been one of Shimano’s best sellers for a very long time, and with the advent of the CI4 technology, and extra improvements in the drivetrain, and the way that the reel handles your line, it is easy to see how the new CI4 model will continue to remain one of Shimano’s best sellers.  Each CI4 reel is approved for saltwater use, making it safe to clean and not worry about the drivetrain or bearings to start corroding over time.

Shimano knows what a UL angler needs from their reel, and knows how to deliver that, and more.  The Stradic CI4 is no different, and provides some of the features you will find on the highest end of reels, but at a price tag that can compete so the reel is accessible to all anglers.
