Product Specifications

Top of the line engineering goes into every Shimano Stella 1000 reel.  Combining their Propulsion, Paladin, and Aero Wrap II systems, the Stella FD features a magnesium frame and sideplate and an aluminum rotor to achieve an incredibly lightweight design.  A proprietary gear coating on top of the Paladin gear durability enhancement makes the reel even more bulletproof than before.  The Fluidrive II floating shaft system and twelve ball bearings provide absolutely precise movements on every turn of the reel.  The aluminum frame, rotor, and spool, combined with a front drag Fluidrive II system makes the Shimano Stella 1000 the clear-cut winner of the 2010 ICAST show.

What I Think

Even though the Shimano 1000 has a higher price tag than what most ultralight anglers would expect to pay for a new reel, it is money well spent.  As the winner of the 2010 ICAST show, anglers, editors, and critics alike voted the 1000 as the best freshwater reel produced to date.  This is a steep task and one that Shimano was confident they could take when they begin to engineer the reel.  The reel is built with, quite possibly, the most efficient drivetrain of any ultralight reel that has ever been produced.

While the price tag may scare some anglers away, if you are a hardcore ultralight angler you will easy appreciate the features and level of craftsmanship that goes into each of the Stella reels that are produced.  It’s designed to help you feel even the slightest of ticks on the end of your line, and hold a large capacity of 2lb and 4lb test.
