Product Specifications

The Shimano Sienna SN500FD features a propulsion spool lip to help get your casts out further distances, along with high quality graphite components, making it incredibly durable.  The graphite frame, sideplate, and rotor are virtually indestructible.  An aluminum spool with varispeed oscillation and a Super Stopper II drag system lets you put the brakes on smoothly without having to worry about flex in the spool or the rotor itself.  Each reel is Dyna Balanced to ensure that the weight from the rotor and bail transfers smoothly, without creating a wobble when you are retrieving line.

What I Think

Not all ultralight anglers are freshwater-only anglers.  That’s where the Shimano Sienna SN500FD comes into its own.  Being one of the few, if not only ultralight reels that are approved for saltwater use makes it a great choice when you are chasing different species in the salt.  When you’re done, simply rinse it off and get it ready for your next trip.  Each reel comes with a level of quality that you would expect from reels with a much higher price tag.  When you finally get to use it, you’ll end up wanting to pick up more reels for other anglers in your family.

The Shimano Sienna SN500FD is a highly versatile ultralight reel that is at home in both freshwater, as well as saltwater conditions.  The smaller SN500FD model is a true ultralight reel, weighing in at only 6 ounces, and able to handle a high capacity of 2lb and 4lb test lines.
