Fenwick designs each HMG spinning rod with their state of the art Carbon Veil technology.  Each of these classic rods is incredibly comfortable and designed to the specifications that Fenwick has come to be known for.  Rather than building each rod with an action in mind, they built them with applications in mind.  The exclusive Carbon Veil technology produces a 100% high modulus graphite blank that is both lightweight, and sensitive, and then Fenwick wraps each blank in Fuji Alconite guides and Fuji reel seats for the ultimate fit and finish.  Ultralight models are available in a 4’9” moderate action and capable of throwing 1lb to 6lb test line.

What I Think

The pricing on the Fenwick HMG models makes them incredibly competitive in the market, especially when you compare their features to some of the higher end, higher priced models that are available.  The moderate action in the ultralight rods is perfect for super smooth casting strokes and making sure that you still have enough backbone to set the hook when you get a fish on.  Each rod is designed with classic Fenwick finishes to ensure that it is both sensitive, and strong.

If you’re looking for a high end ultralight rod without spending $200 or more to get it, you should start considering the Fenwick HMG model of ultralight rods.  Carbon Veil technology goes a long way to producing a rod that casts effortlessly, especially when paired with a seamless reel, as well as giving you extra pressure for the hookset.
