Product Specifications

Fenwick produces some amazing ultralight products, including their Elite Tech River Runner series of spinning rods.  Each rod is built to handle the lightest lures you can throw, using a high modulus graphite blank that is designed with a fast tip and soft action.  Premium titanium guides and SiC inserts line the blank.  With the unique “hidden handle” and split grip design, the Elite Tech River Runner series rods are some of the lightest, best balanced ultralight rods you’ll find anywhere.

What I Think

I expected to receive an ultralight rod, but with the way manufacturers are labeling their products these days it was hard to determine whether or not it would be a true UL setup.  If you are looking for a true UL rod you will love the Elite Tech River Runner series.  The 6’8” setup has just enough backbone to help get a good hookset, with the perfect length and taper to give you precise accuracy and sensitivity.  The improved ferrule design keeps the two piece rod stuck together easily, does away with some of the problems you notice on other two piece setups, and makes it feel like a one piece rod.  Pair it up with a light reel, such as a Shimano CI4 or a Pflueger Patriarch and you’ve got an excellent combo for the money you’ve spent.

When it comes to the sheer amount of ultralight rods being marketed these days, it’s hard to figure out if you’re really going to get what you’re paying for.  With the Fenwick Elite Tech River Runner series rods, though, you get a true ultralight rod that packs quite a few features that other rods on the market can’t hold a candle to.
